Polar Cubs Childcare Center

Polar Cubs Childcare Center will close for snow or ice if the Floodwood Public School is closed. An email will be sent to families, notifying them of closure. Public School closings are announced on local TV stations as well as local radio stations. We will remain open if the school closes due to cold temperatures.

PROGRAM OPTIONS

The Polar Cubs Childcare Center is licensed by the Minnesota Department of Human Services to care for children ages 6 weeks to age 12. It is staffed by a director and trained staff to meet all licensing requirements. The center offers four age-appropriate programs to meet the diverse needs of the children.
INFANT: (Ages 6 weeks to approx. 16 months) A loving atmosphere where intellectual and physical development are stimulated with music, literacy, language, muscle development, and exploration of the environment using age-appropriate equipment. A staff ratio of at least 1 adult to 4 children is maintained.
TODDLER: (Approx. 16 months to 33 months) Toddlers are cared for in a stimulating classroom with age-appropriate equipment and program plan which includes circle time, music, large muscle, art, literacy, creative thinking, socialization, communication, and self-sufficiency skills with emphasis on exploration and discovery. Weekly themed lesson plans are prepared to provide guided learning opportunities and experiences for the children. The classroom is arranged in learning centers to allow the children to explore freely and to practice skills necessary for Preschool. A staff ratio of at least one adult to 7 children is maintained.
PRESCHOOL: (Approx. 33 months to 4 years) Our preschool program includes circle time, music, literacy activities, art, sensory, dramatic play and construction, community exploration, socialization, and large muscle activities. The classroom is arranged into learning centers which provide the children with many self-directed learning opportunities as well as teacher directed lessons to prepare children for kindergarten. Lesson plans are written using a literacy approach where activities are based on a book read daily. A staff ratio of at least one adult to 10 children is maintained.
SCHOOL AGE: (First day of Kindergarten to age 12) Our school aged program provides before and after school childcare options and full-time use when the school is not in use. Before school begins at 6:00am and runs until school begins. After School begins at school dismissal and continues up until 6:00pm. Program includes academic enrichment and additional core curriculum.
